how hot is 'too hot'?

Hydraulic fluid temperatures above 180°F (82°C) damage most seal compounds and accelerate degradation of the oil. While the operation of any hydraulic system at temperatures above 180°F should be avoided, fluid temperature is too high when viscosity falls below the optimum value for the hydraulic system's components. This can occur well below 180°F, depending on the fluid's viscosity grade.

Many hydraulic system failures show similar symptoms throughout the industry, a gradual or sudden loss of hydralic pressure, resulting in loss of power or speed in the cylinders, to a point the hydraulic cylinders may stall under light loads or no movent. Most of the times  the power loss is  followed by an increased pump noise, as the pump tries to build up pressure.alt

Any major component (pump, relief valve, directional valve, or cylinder) could be at fault. In a sophisticated system other components could also be at fault, heat is generated as the carbon dioxide builup over time du to high temperatures of the hydraulic system, creating a conductive heat generator, MoreMPG will removed the Carbon Dioxide removing the conductivity results in significant tempurature drops.

Gearbox Solutions

One of the key attributes of MoreMPG™ as an oil catalyst is its very nature to produce a smooth glass-on-glass surface within gearboxes, thereby reducing friction, which in turn translates to lower operating temperatures. MoreMPG™ is an ideal “Metal Treatment System” for use in gearboxes covering the full range of applications in industries such as the chemicals, energy, material handling, environmental, extraction, pulp and paper, steel and metal, food and beverage, and construction industries.

The simple formula* below clearly demonstrates the oil temperature reduction performance characteristics of MoreMPG™ when introduced to a typical gearbox, thus resolving the premature breakdown of bearing seals.

 

EXAMPLE:
1. Take the outside temperature of a
     gearbox using an infrared (thermal
     sensing) temperature gun.
     In this example, we will use 130
     degrees to illustrate one of the
     MoreMPG™ qualities.
2. Multiply the 130? by 1.5
     [130 x 1.5 = 195].
     Yield: OIL TEMP (195?) inside the
     gearbox.
3. Multiply the 195? by 1.25
     [195 x 1.25 = 243.75].
     Yield: GEAR TEMP (243.75?)
     inside  the gearbox.

The above temperature examples demonstrate where the mechanical problem lies.  When the oil temperature exceeds 190 degrees, its rate of oxidation goes up dramatically, resulting in the formation of an acid called Aldehyde. This acid is what damages and eventually destroys bearing seals.  MoreMPG™ lowers the operating temperature of the oil, thereby significantly reducing or eliminating the Aldehyde buildup (depending upon the gearbox average operating temp.), a key contributor to mechanical failures.
